Islamabad, 13 August 2021 (TDI): Netherlands Ambassador to Pakistan, Wouter Plomp thanked Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan for presenting Dutch national long-distance runner Sifan Hassan as a role model for Pakistani youth.
Sifan Hassan is an Ethiopian-born Dutch middle and long-distance runner and the only athlete to have won two gold and one bronze medal in the 5000 meters, 10000 meters, and 1500 meters races respectively in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Prime Minister Pakistan Imran Khan in a statement on Twitter urged Pakistani youth to see the race of Sifan Hassan in the semi-final of the 1500 meters in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. In the race, she fell but did not give up. She ended up winning the semi-final. The Prime Minister asked the Pakistani youth to take home the lesson that “you lose only when you give up.”
