Rawalpindi, 1 August 2022 (TDI): Ambassador of the Netherlands, Wouter Plomp, paid a farewell call to General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan.
The meeting happened at General Head Quarters GHQ Rawalpindi on August 1, 2022. Multiple topics like regional security and bilateral cooperation were discussed during the call.
The conference covered topics of shared interest, the state of regional security, and bilateral collaboration in a variety of disciplines.
According to the Army Chief, Pakistan values its connections with the Netherlands. He sincerely hoped to improve their multifaceted, mutually beneficial relations based on shared interests.
Likewise, he praised the Ambassador for his assistance and recognized how he had helped to forge close ties between the two nations.

The Netherland’s Ambassador expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s contribution to regional stability at the time and promised to do his part to advance diplomatic ties with Pakistan on all fronts.
Pakistan and Netherland’s Bilateral Relations
Pakistan formed bilateral ties with the Netherlands after soon after gaining Independence. The Netherlands established its first Embassy in Karachi in 1995.
Later the Embassy shifted to Islamabad. From the 1960s onward, Pakistan received significant development cooperation funding from the Netherlands. Funding was particularly in the areas of water management/environment, education, and governance.
The Dutch government made the decision to halt the structural development projects and refocus on commercial relations in 2011. The Netherlands has hosted more than 100 Pakistani diplomats and given degrees to them since 2004.
Pakistan and the Netherlands signed a bilateral double taxation agreement to encourage trade between the two nations, in 1982. Pakistan is the Netherlands’ 13th-largest trading partner globally and its sixth-largest non-European economic partner.
