Mongolia wins Silver in World Amateur Chess Championship

Ulaanbaatar, 26 October 2021 (TDI): A 12-year-old Mongolian chess player, N.Sodbileg has won a silver medal in the category U-1700 of the World Amateur Chess Championship.  The Amateur Chess Championship was held in Rhodes city, Greece. It started on 16th October and lasted for ten days.

The World Amateur Chess Championship is a tournament organized by the International Chess Federation or World Chess Federation, commonly known as FIDE. A total of five players took part in the competition from Mongolia.

The COVID-19 pandemic has badly affected many areas of life, including chess. Some tournaments were even cancelled. The World Amateur Chess Championship is a part of the 2021 Rhodes Chess Festival. It is a step towards returning to normal life after the pandemic.
