Islamabad, 23 March 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev of the Kyrgyz Republic held a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov.

This high-level meeting was held on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the member state of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Highlights of the Meeting

Foreign Minister Kazakbaev congratulated the foreign minister of Turkmenistan on the successful holding of early presidential elections. These elections were held on 19 March 2022.

Furthermore, he congratulated his counterpart on the inauguration of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Also, he wished the people of Turkmenistan prosperity and well-being while his counterpart thanked him for the congratulation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan also thanked Minister Kazakbaev for “sending international observers from Kyrgyzstan to the elections”.

Further, they discussed the bilateral areas of cooperation in trade, light industry, economic and investment spheres, tourism, and transport. In addition, both central Asian officials exchanged views on energy supply and transit issues between the two countries.

Both ministers also discussed the holding and organization of mutual visits at various levels of upcoming events. Furthermore, the Ministers talked about joint plans for the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

The two countries will celebrate their 30th anniversary this year. The Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic suggested accelerating the consideration of the Development Fund issue of the two countries to “launch the work of fund this year”.

Additionally, they discussed the upcoming Fourth Consultative Meeting of the State of Central Asia leaders. Also, they acknowledged the value and importance of this platform in the “development and deepening of regional cooperation”. Lastly, they talked about the Ukraine crisis and the other issues of regional and international security.
