Vienna, 16 September 2021 (TDI): The non-Resident Ambassador of Maldives to Austria, Asim Ahmed held a meeting with Gabriele Méon-Tschürtz, Head of Asia and Pacific Division at the Ministry of European and International Affairs of Austria. Both parties discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and enhance bilateral relations. Asim Ahmed is elected as the first non-Resident Maldivian Ambassador to Austria.
Ambassador Asim also met with Harald Welsch, Special Representative of the Minister for European Union and International Affairs, and Monika Klinger, Director of International Tourism Affairs. They discussed tourism in both countries to enhance people–to–people linkage.
Ambassador Asim also met Leonore Gewessler, Federal Minister for Climate Action of Austria. The Maldives over the few years has gained attention in the international arena. It had vocally advocated for several global causes, most importantly as a climate champion fighting for the priorities of Small Island Developing States. Moreover, Ambassador discussed distinct climate vulnerabilities and the importance of commitment to climate action.
