Malaysian PM Likely to Visit Pakistan, Bangladesh this week

Islamabad (TDI): Malaysian PM Anwar ibrahim is likely to launch his awaited visit to South Asian countries, Pakistan and Bangladesh, this week.

However, On September 21, in an exclusive chat, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch told The Diplomatic Insight that the Malaysian pm is coming to Pakistan and “we are working on details, date has not yet finalized; and yes his visit is due in October.”

Official sources said that Anwar Ibrahim will hold meetings with Pakistani officials besides signing several memorandum of understandings (MoUs).

Some agreements are also expected to be signed.

The Malaysian premier will be accompanied by a high-level delegation during the visit. Anwar Ibrahim will hold meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other top Pakistani leaders.

The discussions between the two leaders will focus on enhancing bilateral trade and investment.

Hot issues including Kashmir, Palestine and regional situation are expected to be discussed too as the two countries share views and interest in the regional development .

This will be the first visit by a Malaysian top leader since 2019 when former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad visited Pakistan.

The visit underscores the growing ties between Pakistan and Malaysia, particularly in areas of economic cooperation and shared diplomatic priorities.

Meanwhile, The Bangladeshi media has reported that if all goes as planned, he will arrive in Bangladesh on October 4.

The media reports suggest that he will discuss issues of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia during his visit to the country.

Earlier, following the change in Bangladesh’s political scenario, on August 14, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his wish to visit Bangladesh promptly.

At that time, he personally called interim government Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus to congratulate him and convey his intention to visit.
