Kyrgyzstan Starts Jalalabad Refinery Modernization

-

Jalal-Abad, (TDI): Kyrgyzstan launched a significant modernization project at its largest oil refinery, situated in the southern city of Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

Operated by the Kyrgyz Petroleum Company, the facility currently produces AI-80 gasoline, diesel fuel, and fuel oil.

With an annual demand for gasoline and diesel fuel reaching 1.4 million tons, the Jalalabad refinery presently meets only 6.5% of this need.

However, following the completion of the modernization efforts, it is projected that the refinery will satisfy 32% of the domestic demand.

The upgrade is expected to result in a more than twelvefold increase in the production of AI-92 and AI-95 gasoline, alongside a 40% boost in diesel fuel output.

The total investment for this modernization initiative is estimated at $410 million, which includes $200 million in foreign investments and $110 million from the Kyrgyz government.

Currently, Kyrgyzstan relies heavily on imports from Russia for nearly all of its gasoline and diesel fuel.

Kyrgyzstan-Azerbaijan Cooperation

In a bid to diversify its sources, Kyrgyzstan has proposed to oil-rich Azerbaijan to establish a long-term contract for the supply of Azeri crude oil.

This crude is essential for the Junda oil refinery located in Kara-Balta, about 100 kilometers west of Bishkek.
