Kyrgyzstan declares mourning day for Ulyanovsk traffic accident victims

Bishkek, 23 August 2022 (TDI): The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov, in his address after the road accident in Russia declared 23 August as the Day of General Mourning in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.

The Kyrgyz President in his address said that the accident in the Ulyanovsk region of the Russian Federation has shocked everyone. He said the irreparable loss of deep pain echoed in the hearts of all.

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic also referred to the Holy Quran verse “And Allah loves the patient” in his address. He also assured assistance to the relatives and friends of the dead and injured in the accident.

Considering the severity of the incident, the Kyrgyz President declared 23 August a Mourning Day. He said, “Dear compatriots, this tragedy is a great grief for all our people, in this regard, I declare August 23 the Day of General Mourning in the territory of Kyrgyz Republic”.

Road Accident in Russia (Overview)

On (Sunday) August 21, an accident occurred in which a minibus collided with two trucks in Russia’s southern Ulyanovsk region. As a result of the collision, 16 people died including 14 Kyrgyz citizens and 2 Russians.

The Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan on Monday confirmed the deaths of 14 Kyrgyz citizens in the deadly road accident in Russia.

As per the statement issued by Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Ministry, Consular employees of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Russia visited the site of the incident.

The statement further enunciated that interaction with law enforcement and local authorities is being carried out.
