Mogadishu, 23 August 2022 (TDI): President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud made a phone call with the Emir of the state of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Monday evening.

Agenda of Telephonic Dialogue

During the phone call both the officials discussed bilateral relations between both brotherly nations. The Emir of the state of Qatar expressed his condolences over the recent terrorist attack that took place in Mogadishu.

The Emir expressed the support of Qatar to provide health assistance to the injured. Both the officials reviewed relations between the two countries and prospects for promoting them. They also exchanged views on several areas of mutual interest.

The President of Somalia expressed his sincere thanks to the Emir of Qatar for its solidarity with the country. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing and strengthening their relations.

They also reviewed the latest developments in the situation in Somalia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation of the recent terrorist attack in Mogadishu.

The state of Qatar also expressed condolences to the families of the victims, the government, and the people of Somalia.

Qatar-Somalia Relations

Qatar and Somalia formally established diplomatic relations in 1970. Both the nations are members of the Arab League. Relations between both countries are historical and long-standing based on mutual respect and coordination.

In 2019 Qatar Fund for Development started to implement various development projects in the country. Qatar continues to provide material, humanitarian, and development assistance to support the people of Somalia.

Qatar is resilient in establishing a stable state and sustainable development that enables Somalis to live in security, peace, and prosperity.
