Bishkek, 2 September 2022 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jeenbek Kulubaev received the Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Development Fund Sultan Al-Marshad on September 1.

Sultan Al-Marshad arrived in Bishkek to participate in the opening ceremony of secondary school No. 97 and the laying of a capsule for the construction of a new building of Children’s Hospital No. 3.

At the opening ceremony, Al-Marshad said that “We always seek to fund projects that support the education sector, which is a key to sustainable development that can achieve social growth and economic prosperity.”

The parties discussed projects implemented jointly with the Saudi Development Fund in the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure development, etc.

Both of them were quite satisfied with the high dynamics of Kyrgyz-Saudi relations. Kyrgyz Foreign Minister also stressed the readiness to increase cooperation with the Saudi Development Fund.

In response, Al-Marshad assured that the Republic of Kyrgyzstan was one of the priority partner countries for the fund.

The two sides outlined further steps and discussed several future projects in the field of school construction, affordable housing, and water supply during the meeting.

Kyrgyz-Saudi bilateral relations

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia occupies a small volume of about 0.018% of the trade turnover of the Kyrgyz Republic. The trade turnover of the Kyrgyz Republic with Saudi Arabia increased 2.5 times from 2013 to 2016.

Recently, the Saudi Fund for Development launched a $30 million initiative worth of loans for the Republic of Kyrgyzstan to improve healthcare and education.

This loan is meant to finance a hospital scheme that includes the building and equipment of a 5-story surgical building designed to hold 212 beds.

The loan will also finance the building and equipment of a new school with 40 classrooms for 2,000 students. The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, appreciated the Saudi government for its development support.
