Perth, 27 October 2022 (TDI): Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 fixture on 27 October by 1 run at Optus Stadium. This defeat was one of the major upsets of the T20 World Cup history.

Pakistan team played with Babar Azam (C), Muhammad Rizwan, Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Haider Ali, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Wasim, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah.

Zimbabwe included Wesley Madhevere, Craig Ervine (C), Milton Shumba, Sikandar Raza, Regis Chakabva, Ryan Burl, Luke Jongwe, Bradley Neil Evans, Richard Ngarava, and Blessing Muzarabani.

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first. The team got a good start from their openers. After that, wickets started to fall.

Sean Williams was the top scorer for Zimbabwe. He scored 31 runs off 28 balls. Zimbabwe put in a total of 130 runs. Muhammad Wasim was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan. He picked up 4 wickets for 24 runs in his 4 overs.

In response, Pakistan could not get a good start. Pakistan had a slow start and lost both openers early in the innings. Shan Masood anchored Pakistani innings. He was Pakistan’s top scorer with 44 runs.

Pakistan needed 11 runs in the last over. Muhammad Nawaz was out-caught on the second last ball of the innings. Pakistan then needed 3 runs from 1 ball.

Then, Shaheen Afridi came to the crease and hit the ball toward mid-on where he could manage to get only 1 run.

Eventually, Zimbabwe won the bail biter by 1 run and upset Pakistan. Zimbabwe is now in third place in the Group-B table of Super 12 with this win and Pakistan is still yet to win a game. Pakistan is in fifth place on the table.

Pakistan will face the Netherlands in their next fixture on October 30 at the same venue and Pakistan has to win all the remaining matches to stay alive in the World Cup.
