Paris, 28 June 2023 (TDI): Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber, the foreign minister of Kuwait, engaged in a conversation with his French counterpart, Catherine Colonna, during his official visit to France with his delegation on June 27.
Strengthening Bilateral relations
At the outset of the meeting, Minister Salem Abdullah conveyed the greetings of the Kuwaiti leadership to the French Republic and expressed their sincere wishes for the continued growth and progress of the French people.
He expressed his deep pride in the deep relations between the two friendly countries and the continued progress they have achieved in all fields. Sheikh Abdullah also praised the dynamic cooperation between Qatar and France on all levels, especially in the joint development and humanitarian fields.
The discussions were centred around the issue of exempting Kuwaiti nationals from Schengen visas and the joint efforts to foster European Union support for the demands of the Kuwaiti government.
Moreover, the two sides discussed all aspects of their historical relations and frameworks for strengthening their existing bilateral relations. They also explored new horizons in the interests of the two nations and their people.

In her capacity, Minister Colona admired the high level of cooperation between Paris and Kuwait City. The French Minister also expressed the firm support of his country for the exemption of Kuwaiti nationals from Schengen visas and highlighted the positive impacts of this step on their cooperation.
Discourse on Global issues
French Minister Catherine Colonna praised Kuwait’s balanced foreign policy and its efforts for the realization of peace and security in the region. In addition, she lauded the consistent and firm stance of Kuwait in various regional and international forums, inclining towards cooperation and development
The two sides deliberated on various issues of common concern, threatening international peace and security.
They explored various approaches to enhance their cooperation, particularly in light of current developments in the Syrian crisis and converging international efforts to find a resolution to the Syrian issue as well as to end the misery of people in Iraq and Yemen.
Furthermore, the top leaders also touched upon the Russian-Ukraine crisis, its impacts on the whole world, and the changing political dynamics amidst the crisis.
The signing of several agreements symbolizes the commitment of both nations to enhance mutual relations across diverse sectors, including the memorandum of understanding regarding the establishment of a joint strategic dialogue between the government of the State of Kuwait and the government of the French Republic.
Later, the Kuwaiti minister also met with Patrick Dorrell, Advisor to the President of the French Republic for Middle East and North Africa Affairs. The two leaders discussed various ways to further expand the mutual relations between the two countries.
