Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan is providing and will continue to provide whatever support Saudi Arabia requires to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said, amid Houthi attacks against the kingdom.
In an interview with Independent Arabia aired on Sunday, the military spokesperson described Saudi Arabia’s security, particularly the protection of Islam’s two holiest mosques, as a non-negotiable priority for Pakistan.
“Whatever support is needed to do that is being provided and will be provided,” he said, adding that military alliances do not publicly disclose the precise nature or scale of support extended to their members.
His remarks come as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia deepen defense cooperation under the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement between the two countries and the Makkah Joint Defense Alliance, which also includes Türkiye.
Asked about Pakistan’s response to attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement, Chaudhry said the incidents had generated anger across Pakistan, extending from the public to the country’s political and military leadership.

He questioned why any actor would threaten Saudi Arabia or create an impression that the holy sites were at risk, stressing that there could be no ambiguity over their security. Addressing concerns about the scope of Pakistan’s military assistance, the DG ISPR said the three members of the Makkah alliance were clear that the arrangement was defensive and had no offensive objectives.

He cited Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which recognizes the inherent right of individual and collective self-defense in the event of an armed attack, as the legal basis for collective deterrence. According to Chaudhry, the alliance sends a message that aggression against any of its three members could prompt a collective response.
