Islamabad, 24 December 2021 (TDI): Pakistan Taekwondo Federation is honored to organize “Chief Of Army Staff – Pakistan Open International Taekwondo Championship – 2021” at Liaqat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Board, Islamabad. This vigorous event is sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Pakistan.

This is a G1 category event, duly recognized by World Taekwondo & Asian Taekwondo. +20 Countries, 550 athletes along with technical delegates from more than 6 countries have participated in this mega event from all over the world.

Taekwondo is the most important element of the K–Sport and is popular all over the world. Federal Minister (Professional Coordination) of Pakistan Dr. Fehmida Mirza and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Pakistan, Suh Sangpyo honored the debut of this event as a Chief Guests.

Besides, Javed Iqbal Ramday (Pattern in Chief), Raja Nasir Ali Khan (Gilgit Baltistan Minister for Sports and Tourism), Jung Kook – Hyun (World Taekwondo), number of the political figures, journalists, and diplomatic corps also honored this event as guests.

550 Players, judges from different countries, officials, and technical referees were part of this championship. Flags of the participating countries have been waved with honor and excitement and the opening ceremony was marked by an exhilarating display of taekwondo show which fascinated the crowd with some exciting moves.  

The opening ceremony was held as a large-scale congregational event after the stabilization of the COVID–19 situation in Pakistan. Besides the host Pakistan, other states i.e. Afghanistan, Albania, Turkey, Egypt, Nepal, Jordon, Oman, Kazakhstan, Iran, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, El. Salvador, Croatia, and the WT Refugee team were contesting for 18 Gold Medals.

Kazakhstan has won the COAS Pakistan Open International Taekwondo (G – 1) Championship 2021 by acquiring 6 gold medals in the Arena. Croatia remained 2nd by winning the 2 Gold Medals, while Oman and Egypt took 1 Gold Medal each in the international fixture.

Pakistani players namely Haroon Khan and Hamza Omar Saeed grabbed two Gold Medals in their respective categories of the championship. Furthermore, 7 Silver Medals along with a dozen of Bronze Medals have splendidly raised the pride of Pakistan all over the world.

Pakistan has never won a medal in Taekwondo before. In his address, Suh Sangpyo expressed his hope that Pakistan’s interest in Taekwondo will enhance the mutual relationship between both states.
