Kazakhstan Launches New Online Marketplace

Karaganda (TDI): Kazakhstan’s e-commerce sector hit a major milestone with the launch of Teez, a domestic online marketplace that promises next-day delivery and has established pick-up points in 24 cities across the country.

The marketplace, based in Karaganda, a central city in the Karaganda region, aims to revolutionize digital trade in Kazakhstan.

Trade and Integration Minister Arman Shakkaliyev toured the facility’s main warehouse last week.

Linar Khusnullin, Teez’s co-founder, shared plans to expand the existing network of 40 pick-up points to 127 nationwide.

Minister Shakkaliyev highlighted the rapid growth of e-commerce in Kazakhstan, noting a 20% surge in electronic trade volume during the first ten months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

He pointed to Karaganda’s central location and robust infrastructure as critical factors positioning it as a potential trade and logistics hub for Central Asia.

E-Commerce in Kazakhstan

According to The Times of Central Asia, e-commerce in Kazakhstan exceeded 2.2 trillion KZT ($4.8 billion) in 2023, accounting for 13% of total retail trade, a slight increase from the previous year.

The government aims to elevate this figure to 20% by 2030, underscoring the importance of platforms like Teez in achieving this target.
