Astana (TDI): President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said that Kazakhstan and Japan consistently support each other on key global issues, including peace and nuclear disarmament, both at the United Nations and other international forums.
The president made these remarks during a meeting with members of the Japan–Kazakhstan Parliamentary Friendship Group, led by Toshiaki Endo. President Tokayev highly commended the group’s role, describing it as an important platform for strengthening bilateral cooperation.
He said Kazakhstan places great importance on expanding comprehensive engagement with Japan, noting that inter-parliamentary dialogue between the two countries continues to develop actively, alongside regular high-level contacts.
President Tokayev highlighted the steady growth in trade, economic and investment relations, pointing out that Japan is among Kazakhstan’s largest investors. He noted that bilateral trade reached $2 billion last year, accounting for more than 70 percent of Japan’s total trade with Central Asia.

Expressing confidence in the future of bilateral relations, the president also underscored the depth of cultural and humanitarian ties between the two nations. He said Kazakhstan and Japan cooperate closely in education, science, culture, arts, sports and tourism.
He also recalled that the 180th birth anniversary of renowned Kazakh poet and philosopher Abai Qunanbayuly was marked this year during the World Expo in Osaka.
President Tokayev further emphasized that Kazakhstan attaches special importance to the “Central Asia–Japan” Summit, calling it a key mechanism for strengthening interregional cooperation.
