Nur-Sultan, 5 September 2022 (TDI): The state of Kazakhstan celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of Akhmet Baitursynuly who was a famous scholar, teacher, poet, and public figure.

Baitursynuly was the creator of the first Kazakh alphabet and the first national newspaper. He made a lasting contribution to the history of Kazakh literacy and languages.

Moreover, September 5 was added to the UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) list of anniversaries for 2022-2023, to honor Akhmet Baitursynuly.

Erlan Karin, Secretary of State of Kazakhstan, stated “Akhmet Baitursynuly is an outstanding historical and state figure, scientist, and educator.”

He further added, “the era when Akhmet Baitursynuly lived and the current era of Independence have a common goal – the development of modern values while maintaining national identity.”

Akhmet Baitursynuly (1873-1938)

Akhmet Baitursynuly was a statesman, scientist, educator, poet, and publicist from Kazakhstan. He also founded the fields of Kazakh linguistics and literary studies.

Moreover, he was one of the early pioneers of the movement for the national freedom of the people of Kazakhstan.

Akhmet Baitursynuly worked as a teacher from 1895-1909. He began his political activity in 1905. Further, he was the author of the Karkaraly petition which was signed by 14,500 people.

Akhmet Baitursynuly published his first national newspaper named “Kazakh”. He published it with Alikhan Bokeikhanov and Myrzhakyp Dulatov. Three of them later founded the Alash Party and the Alash Orda government.

Despite the fact that Akhmet Baitursynuly was arrested and imprisoned for many charges of Counter-revolutionary activities, he continued working for the benefit and development of the culture of the Kazakh people. Baitursynuly was executed by shooting in 1938.

Celebrations on the Anniversary

The state of Kazakhstan celebrates the anniversary of Akhmet Baitursynuly with great passion. Events occur across the entire country under the sponsorship of UNESCO.

The International Congress in Turkistan is also among the significant events places. In addition, there are significant infrastructure and cultural projects going on in Kostanai Kazakhstan, where the scientist was born.
