Amman, 4 October 2021 (TDI): The ruler of Jordan King Abdullah met with the President of the World Bank Group, David Malpass. The meeting took place at the Basman Palace.
During the engagement, the King expressed his appreciation of the partnership between Jordan and the World Bank Group. The two have been working together to enhance the recovery and resilience of Jordan’s economy. King Abdullah stated that his country depended on the support of the World Bank Group in an array of fields. From tourism, energy, transportation, and job creation to the social safety net. However, there is an increased need to strengthen the ties between the two entities.
David Malpass, on his part, commended the efforts adopted by Jordan to eradicate poverty and boost the business environment. He also conveyed his support for the refugees in Jordan and ensured that the World Bank will provide education, job opportunities, and health services.
Furthermore, the issues of economic integration and energy connectivity projects, which are supported by Jordan, also came under discussion.
Other officials attending the meeting were Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Planning Minister Nasser Shraideh, Energy Minister Hala Zawati, and several World Bank officials.
