Rawalpindi, 14 February 2022 (TDI): The Interior Minister of Iran, Dr. Ahmad Vahidi, along with his diplomatic entourage visited the General Headquarters (GHQ), today. During his visit, he met with General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan.
The agenda of the meeting was to review the geostrategic environment, especially the regional security situation as well as bilateral collaboration in defense and security fields.
In this context, the Pak-Iran Border Security mechanism including the Border Markets also came under discussion. General Qamar Javed Bajwa on his part enunciated that enhanced collaboration between the two fraternal neighbors was essential for regional peace and stability.
The COAS stated that the Pak-Iran Border is a border of peace and friendship. He underscored the necessity of putting in joint efforts to prohibit any space or liberty of action that can be manipulated by miscreants along the Pak-Iran border.
Whilst, Dr. Vahidi on his part acknowledged during the meeting that the stability in Afghanistan was a joint regional responsibility. Likewise, he appreciated the efforts undertaken by Pakistan to restore peace and stability in the region.
Furthermore, he lauded Pakistan’s efforts for the humanitarian assistance being provided to mitigate challenges encountered by the people of Afghanistan.
The Iranian Minister along with other Iranian officials arrived today in Islamabad for a one-day visit. Upon arrival, he was received by the Interior Minister of Pakistan Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed.
During his stay, he conducted various meetings with Pakistani officials. In this regard, he held a meeting with Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed and later called on the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan.
This is the first visit of the Iranian Interior Minister, Dr. Vahidi to Pakistan, after taking charge. It is pertinent to note that, his visit is subsequent to the visit of the Saudi Interior Minister, last week.
