Tehran, 9 August 2021 (TDI): The Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met UN Special Envoy to Afghanistan, Jean Arnault on Monday in Tehran. Both officials discussed the root causes of the situation in Afghanistan including the demobilization of foreign powers and ineffective policies.
In the meeting, Zarif expressed Iran’s willingness to participate in negotiations and to make progress in Afghan Peace Process. The UN Envoy talking about the situation in Afghanistan said that Iran and other countries have an important role to play in facilitating the Peace Process in Afghanistan and collective cooperation is required for achieving appropriate results.
Both representatives agreed that intra-Afghan talks are the only way to handle the current ongoing situation in Afghanistan.
