Islamabad (TDI): Iran on Tuesday expressed concern over escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, calling for continued diplomatic efforts to ease regional strains.
Speaking at the Islamabad Institute of Strategic Studies, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam stressed, “War in the region is in no one’s interest,” and warned that shared adversaries of Pakistan and Iran were promoting terrorism and separatism.
The remarks came days after Pakistan conducted intelligence-based strikes on terrorist camps inside Afghanistan in response to recent suicide bombings in Islamabad, Bajaur, and Bannu during Ramazan.
Amiri Moghadam highlighted the strong cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad at regional and international forums and thanked the Pakistani government and people for their continued support. He emphasized that both countries reject separatism and remain united in supporting Palestine and opposing Zionist aggression.

On the diplomatic and economic front, the ambassador noted that 25 high-level Iranian delegations had visited Pakistan last year, describing bilateral trade as being at a “good level.” He praised Pakistan’s vote against an anti-Iran resolution in Geneva and reiterated Iran’s stance on its nuclear program, stating that the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed its peaceful nature since 2015. He also criticized Israel’s recent actions in the region, calling it “the United States’ representative” and citing Iran’s demonstration of military capability during the recent 12-day conflict.
The envoy concluded by urging both Pakistan and Afghanistan to pursue dialogue, avoid escalation, and strengthen regional cooperation, highlighting that stability and peace are critical for the prosperity of all nations in South and West Asia.
