Dushanbe, 17 September 2021 (TDI): Iran has been declared as the permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the SCO Summit. The Summit was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The decision came at the conclusion of the Summit. The status of Iran was upgraded from an observer state to a permanent member with the consensus of eight main member states. Subsequently, the relevant documents were signed by the members. It would be done along with the initiation of the technical process of Iran’s permanent integration into the SCO.
The changed status of Iran in the SCO validates its significance. It is considered an important regional player in the broader scheme of affairs.
