Tehran, 5 October 2023 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed commitment to strengthening relations with the Azerbaijan Republic in various sectors during a meeting with Azerbaijan President’s Special Representative, Khalaf Aly Oghlu Khalafov.

Amir-Abdollahian highlighted the recent return of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Nagorno-Karabakh as a pivotal moment for regional cooperation, emphasizing its potential to promote peace and economic development in the Caucasus region.

Azerbaijan’s Special Representative reciprocated the sentiment, underscoring the significance of this new chapter in Tehran-Baku relations.

The Iranian Foreign Minister conveyed Iran’s determination to expand its cooperation with Azerbaijan in all areas.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining a balanced approach in their bilateral ties. While referring to the restoration of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Karabakh he emphasized the need for regional cooperation to foster peace & economic development.

Likewise, he expressed the belief that the region should shift from tension and conflict to a language of peace and security.

On his part, Azerbaijan’s Special Representative described the recent meeting between Amir-Abdollahian and Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, as positive and constructive.

He highlighted the promising developments in bilateral relations and stressed the importance of advancing relations in all fields.

He emphasized the Azerbaijani government’s commitment to ensuring the freedom and rights of Karabakh’s Armenians while meeting their essential needs.

Both countries see this as an opportunity to enhance cooperation, promote regional peace, and stimulate economic growth in the Caucasus region.
