Chicago, 11 November 2021 (TDI): Pakistan’s Consul General in Chicago, Tariq Karim, addressed the members of Pakistani American community yesterday, following the celebrations of Iqbal Day 2021. The event was organized by Pakistan’s Consulate General in Chicago, Illinois.

In his remarks, the Consul General paid tribute to Pakistan’s national poet, an eminent thinker, and a great philosopher, Allama Muhammad Iqbal. He was born on November 9, 1877, given which the Pakistani nationals annually celebrate “Iqbal Day” on this date.

Addressing the event in Chicago, CG Tariq Karim honored Iqbal’s legacy, particularly by commending his political struggle for Pakistan’s independence. He also recalled Iqbal’s influential writings and poetry on the splendid occasion, which served as the basis for the country’s independence in 1947.

The event was attended by the Pakistani nationals residing in Chicago and the Consulate officials. The Consul General addressed how Allama Iqbal’s vision and political thought enabled Muslims in the sub-continent to dream of an independent state; to create a homeland that would allow them to freely practice their faith and live with dignity.

Iqbal’s writings served as the reconstruction of the Islamic world. Pakistan’s ancestors have given great sacrifices for the country’s independence, and this was all made possible due to the sincere efforts of Pakistan’s national heroes, including Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

In the light of his distinguished services, the world has honored Iqbal with several illustrious titles, including “Shair-e-Mashriq” (Poet of the East), “Mufakkir-e-Pakistan” (Thinker of Pakistan), and “Hakeem-ul-Ummat” (Sage of the Ummah).
