Sargodha, 27 October 2022 (TDI): The Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS), Islamabad, and the University of Sargodha (SU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday for enhancing and building cooperation on various academic exchange, research, faculty development, and student’s skill development programs.
IPDS and Sarghoda University reached an understanding to develop bilateral cooperation in Knowledge Sharing, Research-and-Development, and Capacity Building in the fields of International Relations (IR), Media Studies, Diplomatic Studies, Leadership, and Capacity building, and other areas of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts for mutual benefit.
Under the MoU, IPDS and SU will cooperate to strengthen cooperation in research, education, and training in Social Sciences, especially Humanities and Social Sciences, including IR, Diplomacy, Business, and Leadership, to designated departments.
Both sides will jointly develop, design, and implement training, diplomas, and certificates for capacity building of SU faculty members of the social sciences departments.
Both sides will collaborate for faculty development and student skill development through workshops, seminars, panel discussions, symposiums with diplomats, and interactive sessions on topics in various fields.
It is also agreed that study and exchange visits will be arranged for the students and faculty members to provide effective exposure to build capacities.
Moreover, it will facilitate the faculty and students of SU to participate in programs of the Centre for SCO Studies, Centre for Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) & China Studies, Centre for Eurasian and Central Asia Studies, International Young Diplomats School, Training Programs and Interactive Session with Ambassador.
Furthermore, IPDS will facilitate the participation of students at the International Young Diplomatic School (IYDS) and offer SU students Internships.
It is agreed that manuscripts of faculty and students in The Diplomatic Insight Magazine and the Biannual Journal of Peace and Diplomacy.
University of Sargodha is one of Pakistan’s major public sector universities in Punjab, Pakistan. With its main campus located in Sargodha city and Agriculture college in its suburb, the University presently has around 19,000 students and 550+ faculty members, including 265+ PhDs, in 22 departments, three institutes, one school, and four constituent colleges that come under the seven faculties of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Sciences, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Medical and Health Sciences, Engineering and Technology. The University also has 224 affiliated government and private colleges across the province.
Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies in Islamabad, Pakistan-based research, advocacy, and public diplomacy Think and Do Tank focusing on the thematic areas of Diplomacy, Leadership, and Peace Studies. IPDS focuses on exploring the possibilities of developing deep-rooted linkages within the SCO member countries and benefiting Pakistan and its citizens through “Connecting People and Providing Opportunities.” The aim also is to raise awareness about the potential of SCO within Pakistan and jointly address the issues of the societies covered by the SCO member states through improved public engagement and diplomacy.
Ms. Farhat AsiF, Founder of the President Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies, Islamabad, Pakistan, and Dr. Farooq Anward, Director of ORIC, University of Sargodha, signed the cooperation agreement. Dr. Qaiser Abaass, Vice Chancellor University of Sargodha, Muhammad Asif Noor, Director IPDS, and others.
