Kitakyushu, 18 October 2021 (TDI): The 50th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships kick-started in Kitakyushu, today. Kitakyushu is situated in the Fukuoka Prefecture of Japan.

It is the first international sports event in Japan after the Tokyo Games. The championship is held in the Kitakyushu City General Gymnasium.

This event is a trial case undertaken by the Japanese government to assess. In the wake of Covid-19, so far large events have been avoided. This championship, consequently, has no limit to the number of spectators. People will attend the event by showing proof of vaccination or negative test results for Covid.

The organizing committee claimed that 70% of the total number of available seats entered the venue on the first day. This includes the ticket buyers and guests.

308 athletes from 56 countries and regions registered for the competition. They will compete for titles in each event including men’s and women’s all-around titles. Athletes were warmly greeted with a round of applause from the spectators on the performance.

The 38th FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships will commence on October 27th at a different site in the same city with ‘no limit rule’.
