Islamabad, 21 December 2021 (TDI): On Dec 19, 2021, Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi showed her solidarity to the subject matter in the Extraordinary Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of the Foreign Ministers (CFM).  Retno Marsudi also met with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan in this regard.

The Summit was convened by Pakistan on the behest of Saudi Arabia to address the Afghanistan Crisis. The Foreign Ministers of the member countries attended the Summit. The agenda was to deliberate upon the resolution of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan as well as to demand affirmative pragmatic efforts from OIC.

Indonesia’s stance on Afghanistan Situation and OIC

In this regard, Indonesia will ensure the following three lucrative tasks on a mandatory basis:

  • OIC must make efforts to enlist the support of the international community for the support and resources to address the humanitarian crisis in the war-ravaged country.
  • For the best interest of Afghanistan, the Taliban ought to behave responsibly for the fulfillment of their promises.
  • OIC must play an exemplary and facilitatory role between Afghanistan and the international donors.

On her part, the Indonesian Foreign Minister assured the OIC CFM that Indonesia will try to assist Afghanistan by the incessant supply of food, healthcare products and other basic commodities to Afghan people.

Furthermore, Retno Marsudi underscored that any procrastination in the fulfillment of promises by the Taliban as well as the international community can have dire consequences for Afghanistan.

Moreover, the OIC initiatives, along with the resolutions to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, must be adhered to, by all the member states.
