ILO helps a woman-led business

Kathmandu, 4 August 2021 (TDI): The International Labor Organization helped a woman named Kalpana Shrestha grow her home-based business of knitwear.

Initially, Kalpana who owned an embryonic business enrolled for a training organized by the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs’ Association of Nepal. This federation has partnered with International Labor Organization’s Sustainable Global Supply Chains Project and it supports micro and small businesses led by women. It helps to enhance their businesses and to have access to services.

Now Kalpana has six workers in her handicrafts unit and she makes crystal beads, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and other kinds of jewelry. This project is funded by the government of Japan and it aims to promote decent work for home-based business owners and units engaged in global supply chains.
