Global Security Forum 2024 commences in Qatar

Doha, 21 May 2024 (TDI): Global Security Forum 2024 commences with an address by Prime Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani on 20th May. The opening address revolved around the most pressing political and humanitarian issues facing the world today.

Global Security Forum has commenced hours after the unfortunate demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. In the light of this, the Prime Minister offered condolences to Iran in his address.

Furthermore, drawing attention to the Gaza situation, he called for collective action and efforts to promote peace and security. Adding on, the Prime Minister emphasized the risks of forced displacement and occupation policies of Israel to regional and global peace.

“History has proven that the cost of any occupation and its consequences are greater than any expected outcome for the occupier. The policies of occupation, forced displacement, and collective punishment never resulted in an end to any conflict, but were instead fuel for the continuation and expansion of violence,” he said.

Moreover, while touching upon Qatar’s contribution to mediation globally, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the need for a moral approach to dispute resolution on a global scale.

“Our commitment in Qatar to employ diplomacy to resolve conflicts by peaceful means is not just a political commitment, but rather a moral commitment that stems from our collective responsibility towards the advancement of the most vulnerable peoples,” said Qatar’s Prime Minister.
