Nur-Sultan, 1 August 2022 (TDI): German Mission in Kazakhstan celebrated 30 years of diplomatic ties between Germany and Kazakhstan.
The celebration of the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the two countries took place in German Embassy in Kazakhstan.
The German Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Monika Iwersen, also attended the celebrations. Additionally, the US Mission in Kazakhstan also joined the Nur-Sultan residents in the celebrations.

Brief History of German-Kazakhstan Relations
Since 1992, Germany and Kazakhstan have maintained warm bilateral relations. Germany has an Embassy in Nur-Sultan and a Consulate General in Almaty.
Moreover, there have been a number of regular consultation formats in place that focus on political, economic and cultural cooperation. In 2012, Germany and Kazakhstan established a partnership in the various spheres of raw materials, industry and technology.
Additionally, Kazakhstan is Germany’s most important trading partner in Central Asia. Trade between the two countries reached a total of some 3.94 billion euros in 2020.
Overall, more than 200 German companies are operating in Kazakhstan. Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI) has an office in Almaty. A German business association in Almaty assists German companies’ activities in Kazakhstan.

German-Kazakh Economic Relations
Germany is one of the largest investors in the Kazakh economy. Over the past 17 years, the volume of foreign direct investments from Germany reached almost US$5.5 billion.
Despite the adverse impact of the pandemic on the economies, last year alone, German companies invested US$323 million in Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, the trade turnover reached US$2.2 billion, 6.4 per cent more than in the same period of the previous year. These details are according to the data provided by Kazakh Invest national company.
Moreover, Kazakhstan participates in a wide range of regional German development cooperation projects in Central Asia. These programmes focus on the development of a vocational training system and good governance.
Additionally, the programmes also focus on sustainable economic development, the environment and energy efficiency as well as disaster prevention.

Kazakh-German Business Forum
The Kazakh-German business forum on 12 My 2022 was yet another step towards strengthening bilateral ties. The event brought some 60 German delegates.
Moreover, this was the biggest business delegation present in Kazakhstan since the outbreak of the coronavirus. The forum focused on prospects for cooperation in high technology, green economy, and logistics.
Likewise, the two sides signed 11 bilateral documents worth over $200 million in multiple areas. These included mechanical engineering, industrial automation, healthcare and IT.
Previously this year, the Presidents of Germany and Kazakhstan also had a telephonic call to discuss several issues of common interest.
