Islamabad, 4 August 2022 (TDI): Sohail Mahmood, Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, received Honda Taro, Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, at the Foreign Office on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the parties discussed all aspects of bilateral ties, including economic, cultural, political, etc. They also discussed regional connectivity with emphasis on investment, trade, and people-to-people contacts.

Sohail Mahmood emphasized that Pakistan and Japan enjoyed long-lasting diplomatic relations with a mutual desire to enhance cooperation in all areas.

Moreover, he noted that the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries was a significant milestone this year.

The Foreign Secretary also updated the Japanese Vice Minister about the negative consequences of India’s actions in August 2019 in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK.

Additionally, the secretary shared Pakistan’s perspective on the Afghanistan situation. He said that practical cooperation between the interim government and the international community was necessary to secure regional stability and peace.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the international community needed to enhance its efforts and assistance to the people of Afghanistan to help them face the challenges of economic sustainability and the alarming humanitarian situation in the country.

The Japanese Parliamentary Vice Minister highlighted the significance of closer Pak-Japan cooperation.

He also agreed on further promoting bilateral trade and investment relations and cooperation on international and regional levels regarding issues of mutual interest.

Previous Meetings

Recently, the Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Minister had a meeting with Shahbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan. They discussed further deepening ties between the two states.

The Pakistani Minister appreciated the Japanese companies’ investment in Pakistan.

While the Vice-Minister complimented Prime Minister’s effort to enhance collaboration between Pakistan and Japan and assured Japan’s support for it.

On Tuesday, Honda Taro also met Hina Rabbani Khar, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
