Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Kenya held telephonic conversation

Islamabad, 5 October 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, held a telephonic conversation with Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Republic of Kenya, Raychelle Omamo.

Shah Mahmood apprised of his Kenyan counterpart that ‘Engage Africa’ policy is one of the top priorities of Pakistan’s government. Hence, bilateral relations of Pakistan with Kenya are significant.

He expressed that Pakistan and Kenya should foster cooperation on trade, economy and defense. Kenya and Pakistan have had strong diplomatic connections for a long time, followed by commercial activities.

With Pakistan’s increased interest in Africa, trade experts from both states believe that Kenya is ultimately trade and investment destination, also as gateway to rest of region.

Current developments in Afghanistan also came under discussion. Shah Mahmood highlighted the need of humanitarian and economic assistance to the people of Afghanistan. He also stated that international community must engage in Afghanistan. The disengagement could worsen the situation in Afghanistan which would lead to grave consequences including refugee crisis.
