Beirut, 25 July 2022 (TDI): Minister of Foreign Affairs for Lebanon, Abdullah Bu Habib congratulated the Lebanese on the well-deserved victory of the Lebanese basketball team and its qualification to the final of the 2022 Asian Cup.

Adding to this he said, “This great victory is a source of pride for the Lebanese expatriates who watched the match in all parts of the world, and in the hope that their joy will be complete tomorrow and the team will win the Asian championship.”

Along with him other Ministers also congratulated the team for its qualification for the final round. Michel Aoun, the President of the Republic, also congratulated the team.

He said, “the Lebanese basketball team qualified for the Asian Cup final, a new victory for the champions of Lebanon and the Arabs.”

In addition, he stated, “Blessed are the efforts of the youth of the Lebanese team, your country is proud of you”, and hoped that the team will win the match tomorrow so that Lebanon will become the Asian champion again.

Furthermore, Nabih Berri, the Parliament Speaker also congratulated the Lebanese basketball team, players, administrators, and the Game Association on qualifying for the Asian Cup final.

Coach of the Cedars

The coach of the team is 33-year-old, Jad El Hajj, who helped them to win the league title. He has been coaching the Lebanese Senior National Team between 2020 and 2022 and coached also U16 National Team in 2019.


The Captain of the team, Wael Arakji, led the scoring for Lebanon, netting 25 points. The Cedars advanced to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIBA Asia after knocking out China in the quarter-finals and topping with New Zealand, the Philippines, and India.

Previously, the Lebanese basketball team won the final round and received a lot of appreciation, which was very well deserved.
