Bali, 8 July 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Faisal Bin Farhan, met with the Foreign Minister of India, Dr. Subramanyam Jaishankar, on the sidelines of G20 meetings in Bali.

The news was shared by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry, on Thursday.

During the meeting, the delegation reviewed “aspects of Saudi-Indian relations in many areas of joint cooperation, and ways to support and strengthen them”.

The meeting also acknowledged that strengthening bilateral relations will serve the interest of both countries and achieve more stability and prosperity for the two friendly countries and their people.

The Ambassador of the Custodian of Two Holy Mosques to the Republic of Indonesia, Issam al-Thaqafi, and the Director-General of the Office of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Abdulrahman al-Daoud, were also present.

Saudi Arabia-India relations

Both the countries enjoy strong bilateral trade and friendly foreign relations that date as far back as 1947. The bilateral trade between the two countries in FY 2021-22 reached more than 40$ billion.

The current Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, visited the Saudi Kingdom in 2016. During his visit, King Salman bestowed the highest civilian honor, King Abdulaziz Sash upon India’s Prime Minister. This award conferred on Prime Minister Modi was in recognition of the strong relations between the two nations.

In 2019 Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited India and announced an investment of nearly $100 billion. Prime Minister Modi of India also visited Riyadh in October 2019. During the visit,12 MoUs were signed across various areas.

Saudi Arabia is India’s fourth-largest trading partner, according to the report by the Indian Embassy. More than 18 percent of India’s crude oil imports are reportedly from Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is also home to an estimated 2.2 million Indian expats, the largest expat community in the Kingdom.
