Foreign Minister of Iran holds discussions with Syrian officials

Tehran, 13 February 2024(TDI): Foreign Minister of Iran, Hossein Amirabdollahian, held discussions with top Syrian officials in Damascus to address issues of high concern.

During his visit, Amir Abdollahian met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad along with Syrian official Faisal Mekdad to discuss both regional and bilateral challenges.

He further stated that at the meeting, “I have an official invitation from President Raisi to a formal meeting with his Syrian counterpart in Iran.”

Furthermore, he extended his deepest sympathies to the Syrian government and its citizens for the US’s latest military assault against Syria.

Iran commits to Support Palestine

During a discussion with Mekdad, they both addressed the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip, urging for an immediate end to the invasion.

In addition, he emphasized the importance of joint efforts to implement the agreements reached between the two presidents.

Invitation to visit Iran

He also stressed the significance of executing the agreements signed during the Iranian President’s previous visit to Syria.

Additionally, the top Iranian official emphasized the importance of private sector involvement in bilateral economic cooperation.

He continued by stating, “It was necessary to remove barriers in this sector and promote cooperation with joint efforts.”

In a separate statement, Iran’s foreign minister stated that “Israeli control was deeply rooted in the situation in Gaza.”

He further asserted that “the only way to put an end to the conflict and horrors in Gaza and the West Bank was through a political settlement.”

Syria’s backing for Palestine

While dealing with the unfolding events in Gaza and the strong backing of both countries for the Palestinian cause, Faisal Mekdad stated, “Thanks to the persistence of the resistance, developments in Palestine progressed despite all the crimes committed by the Zionists, benefiting the Palestinian nation.”

He further emphasized that Gaza and the resistance axis had emerged victorious in this struggle, and everyone was proud of the resistance and their achievements in Palestine.

On the other hand, Iran’s foreign minister, Abdollahian, added , “We will continue consultations and contacts with Syria and other Islamic countries to help the people of Palestine.”
