Moscow (TDI): Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that any foreign interference in Serbia’s internal political affairs is unacceptable.
The remarks were made during a telephonic conversation between Putin and President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.
The two Presidents expressed their willingness to further strengthen the strategic partnership and energy cooperation between Russia and Serbia.
They further stated that their strategic partnership is “based on spiritual, cultural, and historical ties between the peoples of the two countries”
The Serbian President confirmed his plan to visit to Moscow for the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
He also announced that he would be sending a unit of the Serbian Armed Forces to participate in the Parade of May 9, 2025.

President Putin, during the conversation, reaffirmed that Russia will not accept any foreign interference in the internal political affairs of Serbia.

Furthermore, he supported the initiatives taken by the “legitimately elected authorities” of Serbia, to handle the civil and political unrest.
On March 7, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Marko Đjurić, met with the Ambassador of the Russia to Serbia, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko.
The two representatives emphasized that the strong bilateral relations between Serbia and Russia are “firmly founded on traditional friendship and mutual understanding.”
They also discussed bilateral political and economic cooperation between the two countries and agreed that the high level of political relations between Serbia and Russia are also reflected in the field of economic cooperation.
Moreover, the Foreign Minister of Serbia expressed gratitude for Russia’s “consistent support for political stability in Serbia, as well as for the position, based on international law, that foreign interference in political processes” in Serbia is unacceptable.
The security situation in the region, as well as the broader geopolitical situation, were among the topics discussed.

It is important to note that throughout Serbia, student-led anti-corruption protests began when 15 people were killed due to an awning collapse at Novi Sad train station.
On Friday, students called for more protests across the country as well as a general strike.
The Serbian President thanked President Putin for his continued support for the legitimate authorities in Serbia.
Serbia has maintained balanced relations with Russia and the European countries.
Despite the desire to officially join the European Council, the country refused to adhere to the demands of the Western countries of putting sanctions on Russia.
Serbia continues to import majority of its gas from Russia through TurkStream pipeline.
