Ishaq Dar leaves Islamabad for UNSC meeting in New York

Islamabad (TDI): The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, departed from Islamabad for New York to participate in the high-level meeting under the forum of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on “Practicing Multilateralism: Reforming and Improving Governance.”

This meeting is scheduled for 18th February 2025. In this regard, that particular meeting was convened by China under its rotating shift of presidency of the Security Council for the month of February 2025. This said the meeting would be chaired by the Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi.

In such a scenario, Pakistan welcomes China’s initiative, which underlines the critical importance of multilateralism in today’s challenging global world.

Moreover, as a non-permanent member of the UNSC, Pakistan will assure its commitment to the principles of multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in promoting international peace, security and sustainable development.

Furthermore, the Foreign Minister will also focus on Pakistan’s priorities and preferences as a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the term 2025-2026, focusing on the significance of negotiation, dialogue, cooperation, and inclusive global governance.

During this high-level meeting, the foreign minister will hold various meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines and senior UN officials.

Pakistan strongly advocates multilateralism and is committed to actively contributing to global peace, security, and development efforts.
