Rawalpindi (TDI): Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty met with Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, on Sunday at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to discuss defense and security cooperation.

According to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both leaders underlined the importance of maintaining high-level engagement between the armed forces of the two countries. The discussions also covered military exchanges, joint training initiatives, and broader issues of regional peace and stability.

The meeting formed part of Abdelatty’s two-day official visit to Pakistan, which ran from November 29 to 30, during which he also held talks with President Asif Ali Zardari and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, followed by delegation-level meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

After the talks, Dar announced that Pakistan would provide Egypt with a list of 250 selected business enterprises for inclusion in Egypt’s “white list.” Another 250 firms are expected to be added within six months, bringing the total to 500. Both sides have also agreed to establish a Pakistan–Egypt Business Council to institutionalise bilateral trade cooperation.

To address visa-related concerns, a new facilitation mechanism has been agreed upon to simplify travel and business exchanges between the two nations. Political consultations are scheduled to be held in Pakistan during the first quarter of 2026, with the forum’s first meeting in Cairo planned for the second quarter.

Notably, Pakistan and Egypt have also decided to convene the Joint Ministerial Commission in 2026 for the first time since 2010.

Expressing solidarity over recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan, Abdelatty conveyed Egypt’s condolences to the families of victims. He affirmed Cairo’s full support for Pakistan’s fight against terrorism and emphasized the value Egypt places on its relationship with Islamabad.
