Exhibition Merges Disability and Art

-

Paris (TDI): A solo painting exhibition titled “Silent Horizons – A Journey Through Brush and Soul” by artist Barkaat was inaugurated at Pakistan House in Paris, highlighting the remarkable convergence of disability and artistry.

The event attracted ambassadors, art enthusiasts, and individuals from various backgrounds.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to France, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, welcomed guests by emphasizing that “Silent Horizons” represents not just a display of paintings, but a powerful narrative of resilience and self-discovery.

He recounted Barkaat’s life-altering accident 16 years ago, which resulted in brain damage, paralysis, and aphasia.

Despite these challenges, Barkaat’s journey through painting became a profound expression of his spirit.

“The exhibition is a testament to the indomitable human spirit,” Ambassador Ahmad stated, noting that disability was not a barrier but rather a crucible that shaped Barkaat’s extraordinary talent.

Each painting symbolizes triumph over adversity.

Barkaat’s Artistic Journey

Barkaat’s artistic journey has been impressive; he not only uses painting as a means of communication but also earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honours from Punjab University and an M.Phil in Visual Arts from the National College of Arts in Lahore, dedicating his thesis to the theme of disability.

His work has played a pivotal role in consolidating the Disability Arts Movement in Pakistan, promoting the inclusion and creative empowerment of individuals with special needs.
