-

Brussels: 30 July 2021 (TDI):

European Union plans a new forest strategy that aims to increase the carbon sinks to capture 310 million tonnes per year by 2030. This strategy will also improve the quality and quantity of EU forests.

Forests are important for survival. They help in fighting against climate change and are rich in diversity. This new strategy -EU Forests 2030- is the initiative of the European Green Deal. This plan will contribute to achieving the objectives of the EU’s biodiversity. It will also help forests-based value in reaching a sustainable economy by 2050.

The new strategy will support the socio-economic functions of forests along with strengthening their restoration, enlargement, and protection.
