Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Union Commission speaking at the EU-Western Balkans Summit 2021

Kranj, 7 October 2021 (TDI): Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Union Commission, stated that the EU is incomplete without the Western Balkans.

The Western Balkans, according to President Von der Leyen, are part of the same Europe as the European Union. They have the same history, interests, and ideals, as well as the same destiny.

The Western Balkans are essential to the European Union. EU Commission will continue to do all possible to promote the enlargement process and the region’s EU integration. The EU wants the Western Balkans to be a part of it.

The EU Commission will make every effort to move the enlargement process forward, with the Investment Plan at the forefront.

EU partners are implementing significant changes. They must maintain momentum in critical areas like justice, the battle against corruption and organized crime, media freedom, and economic reforms.

Meanwhile, the EU must provide as well. The EU’s position and influence in the area are jeopardized by the absence of a decision.
