Beijing/Geneva, 7 October 2021 (TDI): China and more than 50 African countries co-hosted an event with the title “The Role of Eradication of Poverty in Promoting and Protecting Human Rights”.

The Director-General, Department of African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China informed, “During the 48th session of the UN Human Rights Council, China and 50+ African countries co-hosted a side event to discuss on “The Role of Eradication of Poverty in Promoting and Protecting Human Rights”.

The purpose of this event was to provide livelihood by ending poverty globally and protecting human rights by promoting them. In this quest, Chen Xu, Chinese Permanent Representative to UN office addressed at the 48th session of the UN Human Rights Council and urged the states to collaborate in the alleviation of poverty and design plans for it.

 He highlighted the COVID-19 effect on the poverty situation which hindered the development in the promotion of humans rights. he also exemplified China’s victory in the alleviation of poverty.

The Chinese envoy stressed, “The international community should deepen cooperation in poverty eradication, and provide aid to developing countries. Multilateral institutions like the Human Rights Council should also play a positive role in eradicating poverty”.
