Islamabad, 21 March 2022 (TDI): Sameh Hassan Shoukry, Foreign Minister of Egypt called on General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) at GHQ. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security, and cooperation in all fields of defense & security were discussed.

COAS said that Pakistan and Egypt enjoy truly brotherly relations and emphasized the need for enhancing bilateral cooperation in all also spheres.

Referring to OIC’s 48th Council of Foreign Ministers session, COAS termed it a historic development for addressing the dire humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and bringing the international community to a shared vision and joint strategy to find solutions to emerging challenges in the region vital for peace and stability.

Egyptian Foreign Minister acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions towards regional peace and pledged to play his part for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels. He especially appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in hosting the OIC’s 48th Council of Foreign Ministers.

PAKISTAN-EGYPT DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS 

First of all, it is important to mention that Pakistan and Egypt established diplomatic relations in 1951. Currently, Egypt has an embassy in Islamabad. On the other side, Pakistan has an embassy in Cairo.

Furthermore, both countries are part of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and will be part of the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM). The 48th session of the CFM will start on March 22 in Islamabad.

Egypt and Pakistan have agreed to enhance the existing level of co-operation between the two countries; where both included several areas. Those areas were economic and commercial relations, investment opportunities, co-operation in public and civil services, health sector, agriculture, and postal.

The objective of the meeting between the Egyptian Foreign Minister and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Pakistan Army; General Qamar Javed Bajwa, was to promote the relations between both.

Furthermore, the militaries of both countries have close relations, especially in defense production. The meeting is an example of the high-level delegations of military chiefs that Pakistan and Egypt maintain.

Regarding the cooperation in the energy sector, Pakistan and Egypt reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the cooperation in alternative energy; especially wind power.
