Egypt-Bulgaria sign natural gas and defense agreements

Cairo, 11 February  2024 (TDI): Egypt-Bulgaria signed significant agreements focusing on natural gas and defense cooperation. The signing took place on the sidelines of the first meeting of the cooperation committee between Egypt and Bulgaria.

The first agreement, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on defense cooperation, was signed between Egyptian Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Mohamed Zaki and Bulgarian Minister of Defense Todor Tagarev.

This MoU underscores the mutual interest of both nations in strengthening military ties and collaborating on matters of regional security and stability.

Additionally, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla and Bulgarian Energy Minister Rumen Radev finalized a groundbreaking agreement in the field of natural gas. This memorandum of understanding seeks to establish a framework for cooperation encompassing natural gas extraction, storage, transportation, and liquefaction.

It also emphasizes the importance of scientific and technological exchange to promote advancements in the energy sector.

The signing ceremonies took place on the sidelines of the first meeting of the cooperation committee between Egypt and Bulgaria. This further highlighted the commitment of both countries to expand their partnership and achieve tangible outcomes.

Speaking about the agreements, Tarek El Molla expressed his optimism for the future of Egypt-Bulgaria cooperation, stating, “These agreements mark a significant step forward in our bilateral relations. By collaborating in areas such as defense and energy, we can unlock new opportunities for economic growth and mutual prosperity.”

Shared Commitment to Global Challenges

Rumen Radev emphasized the importance of partnership in addressing global challenges. He added, “Today’s agreements underscore our shared commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable development. Together, we can overcome obstacles and build a brighter future for our nations,”.

The Egyptian Defense Minister urged for united efforts to stop the escalating tensions in the region. He emphasized the importance of finding a resolution to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Todor commended Egypt for its longstanding and strong relations. He also praised Egypt’s efforts in addressing the Palestinian issue and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza people.

The signing ceremonies were attended by officials from both countries, including Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, and Mariya Gabriel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria.
