Islamabad 29 August 2024 (TDI): A moderate earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan on August 29, 2024, at 10:57 PST, with a magnitude of 5.4 and a depth of 215 kilometers. The epicenter was located at 36.53 N latitude and 71.31 E longitude.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in Islamabad, the earthquake was felt in various cities across Pakistan, including the federal capital Islamabad, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Swat, North Waziristan, Batagram, Torghar, Kohistan, Malakand, and Mardan. Reports of the earthquake were also received from Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Faisalabad, and Sargodha in Punjab.
The earthquake caused widespread panic, with people rushing out of their homes and offices, reciting prayers. The PMD reported that the earthquake’s intensity was 5.4 on the Richter scale.
