Ulaanbaatar, 8 December 2021 (TDI): The Mongolian Deputy Foreign Minister, Munkhjin Batsumber had various diplomatic engagements with multiple dignitaries and different platforms.
Munkhjin Batsumber was born in 1985 in Ulaanbaatar. He studied at the National University of Mongolia and then later from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Moreover, he has a specialization in British studies and diplomacy.
In 2008 he served as Officer at the Department of Public Administration and Management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia for a year. Later, in 2009 he was appointed as an Attaché at the Department of Public Administration and Management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.
The next appointment of Munkhjin Batsumber was from 2011 to 2014 as Third Secretary at the Embassy of Mongolia in London, United Kingdom. In 2015 he assumed the role of Second Secretary at the Department of Policy and Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, for a year.
His next assignation was as the Head at the Office of Foreign Relations of the Mongolian People’s Party in 2016 for a year. Later he was appointed as Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of Mongolia from 2017 to 2020. Presently, he is serving as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia since July 2020.
Telephonic Meeting with Deputy Minister of Industry & Trade of Russia
In an official telephone call, Deputy Foreign Minister Munkhjin Batsumber talked to the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, MI Ivanov, today. The two discussed the smooth withdrawal of fertilizers from the Russian government. Munkhjin Batsumber appreciated the Russian Deputy Minister for his support and cooperation.
Meeting with Ambassador of Cuba
In a meeting, the Mongolian Deputy Foreign Minister received the credentials of the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Mongolia, Jorge Alberto Ferrer Rodriguez. Ambassador Jorge Alberto Ferrer Rodriguez expressed his keenness to further the bilateral ties between Cuba and Mongolia, especially in the domains of health, education, and biotechnology.
Whilst the Mongolian Deputy Minister on his part highlighted that the traditionally friendly ties between the two countries have strengthened over the time of 61 years. Additionally, he congratulated the Cuban Ambassador on his appointment.
Meeting with Representatives of Swedish National Commercial Council & Open Doors Organization
In another engagement, Munkhjin Batsumber met with the representatives of the Board of the Swedish National Commercial Council. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 28th OSCE Ministerial Meeting, in Stockholm. In addition, he also held a meeting with the Open Doors Organization.
The agenda of the meeting was to discuss expanding Mongolia’s exports to the European Union. Although the Mongolian economy is mainly based on mining, the Deputy Minister highlighted that the country aims to boost the exports of international quality standard milk, meat, leather, cashmere, and wool as end products.
During the meeting, the Open Trade Gate organization appreciated the Mongolian businessmen for organizing special training in the first half of 2022. The training will support the export of Mongolian cashmere and wool products to Sweden and the European Union.
Meeting with Swedish Foreign Minister
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ann Linde, on the sidelines of the 28th OSCE Ministerial Meeting. Munkhjin Batsumber congratulated Ann Linde on the successful organization of the OSCE Foreign Ministers Meeting. He also conveyed greetings from the Mongolian Foreign Minister, Battsetseg.
During the meeting with the Swedish Minister, the Deputy Minister underscored the value of active collaboration between the two countries. Consequently, increased trade and investment will augment Mongolian-Swedish relations.
Aside from that, the two sides exchanged views on the pandemic situation and the need for transparent and fair international trade. Certain issues were also discussed to further collaborate in upholding democracy and human rights, based on shared values.
The Swedish Foreign Minister on her part lauded the mutually beneficial evolution of the Mongolian-Swedish relations and expressed her intent to increase cooperation to boost bilateral trade.
The two countries are collaborating in the framework of the “Friends for Democracy” and aim to enhance it further under the frame of “Aspiration for Democracy.”
Meeting with Director of Korean Peninsula & Mongolia
Munkhjin Batsumber also had an official engagement with Adam Farrar, the Director of the Korean Peninsula and Mongolia at the U.S. National Security Council. The agenda of the meeting was to discuss further strengthening the Mongolia-US Strategic Partnership.
The two sides also deliberated upon economic cooperation, trade, and economic ties, post-epidemic cooperation, as well as investment projects. In addition, the two jointly agreed to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the US and Mongolia, in 2022.
Participation in 28th Plenary Session of OSCE
Earlier this month, Deputy Foreign Minister, Munkhjin Batsumber also led a delegation to attend the 28th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), in Stockholm.
Whilst there, he addressed the 28th Plenary Session of OSCE stating Mongolia’s stance on regional security. He urged for a concerted and collective resolution to the trials faced by the region along with a need of boosting trust among member states. Moreover, he emphasized the significance of the OSCE’s role in this context.
Additionally, he stated that Mongolia will endeavor to develop effective ties and partnerships with the OSCE and its institutions in the spheres of human rights, democracy, gender equality, good governance, and the fight against terrorism.
The 28th meeting of the OSCE was chaired by Anne Linde, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden. It reviewed the activities of OSCE in 2021. Furthermore, issues pertaining to international and regional security and political issues, including the situation in Ukraine, Belarus, Nagorno-Karabakh, and Afghanistan, were also on the agenda.
The 28th meeting of the OSCE was also attended by Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
OSCE is the largest regional security organization having members from 57 countries in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Mongolia became a member of OSCE 2004 and a full member in 2012.
Meeting with Director of Asia-Pacific Department
Aside from the above diplomatic engagements, the Mongolian Deputy Foreign Minister also visited Germany, last week. During his stay, he met with the Director of the Asia-Pacific Department of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Petra Sigmund. The two exchanged views on bilateral ties and collaboration.
Through the meeting, the two parties reaffirmed their dedication to determining new fields of Mongolian-German relations, including extending collaboration in the areas of renewable energy, energy, and environmental protection, as well as initiating bilateral discourse mechanisms.
