Dakar, 5 November 2021 (TDI): The 8th Ministerial Conference of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation will be held from 29 November to 30 November 2021. Dakar, Senegal’s capital holds the prestigious opportunity to host the summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

About FOCAC
Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is an organization working to expand the cooperation between China and African states. China-Africa Cooperation Forum celebrated 20th anniversary of FOCAC in 2020. Eswatini is the only African country that is not part of this organization. FOCAC has helped China to strengthen its relationship with the African continent. The 8th FOCAC Summit will be held in Senegal.
China also recently hosted the 10th meeting of the China-Africa think tanks. It also hosted the 6th China-Africa Youth Festival in Beijing. The two initiatives were also part of the FOCAC.
Flashbacks from the last Ministerial Conference
FOCAC meets every 3 years. Beijing hosted the last Conference, 7th FOCAC Ministerial Conference in 2018. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Chinese Commerce Minister Zhong Shan jointly presided 7th Ministerial Conference. Wang Yi emphasized China-Africa relations. He also highlighted the Belt and Road Initiative Agenda 2063 for African Union (AU). The Conference approved the Beijing Declaration on Building an Even Stronger Community with a Shared Future between China and Africa. It also approved FOCAC-Beijing Action Plan (2019-2021). African countries appreciated the BRI agenda of 2063 for AU. The two sides stressed strengthening their cooperation.
Objectives of the upcoming Ministerial Conference
The forthcoming Conference will focus on expanding the China-Africa cooperation against the pandemic. It will also underline the importance of the Chinese project Belt and Road Initiative in the African continent. The Forum will also look forward to discussing expanding cooperation in the fields of the digital economy, trade, climate change, industrialization, peace and stability, and many others.
