Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan’s Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir has recently received a formal invitation to attend the US Army’s 250th Anniversary celebrations in Washington, D.C., on June 14, 2025.
This invitation by the Trump administration is a notable development and signaling in US-Pakistan military relations and defense diplomacy.
June 14, 2025 marks the 250th anniversary of the United States Army as it was founded on June 14, 1775 by the Continental Congress. The day will celebrate the Army’s two centuries of service, sacrifice, and evolution.
Central to this invitation is the praise from General Michael Kurilla, the Commander of US Central Command (CENTCOM), before the House Armed Services Committee. General Kurilla described Pakistan as a “phenomenal partner in the counterterrorism world” and also highlighted its efforts in disrupting ISIS-Khorasan networks.

India’s Congress Party raised concerns over the invitation. Jairam Ramesh, leader of India’s Congress Party, called the invitation and praise by CENTCOM Chief a “diplomatic setback” for India.
He said, “US Central Command’s head, General Michael Kurilla, uses the word ‘phenomenal partner’ in counter-terrorism for Pakistan…This is a bizarre statement from the top American General…” adding “Second setback, Asim Munir gets an invitation to the US Army Day on June 14th”
A wave of criticism emerged on Indian media, especially due to the recent tensions with Pakistan, regarding CENTCOM Chief’s remarks. Times Now, The New Indian Express, and others are reporting these developments as setbacks for India.
Meanwhile, Islamabad finds the invitation a timely affirmation of its crucial strategic value to both regional and global partners.
