Dar, Saudi Counterpart Discuss Gaza and Reaffirm Commitment to Peace

Islamabad (TDI): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, engaged in a phone call to discuss the ongoing situation in Gaza and reaffirm their shared commitment to peace and stability in the region.

The Foreign Office confirmed the call on Wednesday, noting that the leaders reviewed recent developments in Gaza and Palestine, building on their previous discussions.

The FO stated that the two foreign ministers expressed their mutual concern about the evolving situation and reiterated their dedication to regional peace and stability.

Both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have been closely monitoring developments in Gaza and have continued to engage with one another on matters of shared interest, including the broader Middle Eastern conflict.

In the call, the leaders emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation to address the challenges in Gaza and affirmed their commitment to working together for peace. They also agreed to remain closely engaged on issues that concern both nations and the region at large.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have long maintained strong bilateral ties, especially in the context of mutual interests related to security and regional stability. The two countries were also part of a group of eight Muslim nations that collaborated with the United States to address the crisis in Gaza and bring an end to the violence there.

Earlier this month, both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, expressing hope that the deal would bring an end to the years of conflict and Israeli airstrikes on Gaza. The signing of the ceasefire was seen as a step toward restoring peace in the region after a prolonged period of violence.

Beyond political cooperation, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share a strong multifaceted relationship that spans strategic military cooperation, economic interests, and cultural ties. Saudi Arabia has been a key source of financial aid and energy supplies for Pakistan, and both countries have worked together to further their mutual objectives in the region.

In September, the two nations signed a “Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement” in Riyadh, which formalized their commitment to defense cooperation. Under this agreement, any attack on one nation would be considered an act of aggression against both, strengthening their military and diplomatic ties.

This latest phone call between Foreign Ministers Dar and Prince Faisal bin Farhan reflects their ongoing cooperation and shared goal of promoting peace, stability, and security in the Middle East.
