Rawalpindi, 2 March 2022 (TDI): Commander of Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force, Brigadier General Pilot Hamid Vahedi met with the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The meeting between the two officials took place in the General Headquarters (GHQ),  Rawalpindi. The agenda of the meeting was to deliberate upon matters pertaining to mutual interest and regional security situation.

In addition, bilateral cooperation between the two countries was also discussed. General Qamar Javed Bajwa stated during the meeting that Pakistan wants peaceful as well as close ties with its neighboring country.

In the same vein, he further stressed the need for collaborative efforts towards the attainment of regional stability. Moreover, both sides acquiesced to boost cooperation in the fields of defense & security.

Whilst Brigadier General Pilot Hamid Vahedi on his part acknowledged the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces (PAF). Aside from that, he pledged to enhance collaboration in multifaceted fields.

Lastly, the Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force also appreciated the role of Pakistan in handling the Afghan situation along with effective border management measures.

Both Pakistan and Iran share a contiguous border with Afghanistan. Hence in the wake of US’ troops’ withdrawal from the country, the prevalent crisis-like situation has the potential of impacting both neighbors.

It is pertinent to note here that the Interior Minister of Iran also visited Pakistan last month i.e. February. During his visit, he met with the Prime Minister as well as the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan.

The Interior Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran also met with his Pakistani counterpart during his official visit. Sharing contiguity, Pakistan and Iran enjoy cordial and deep fraternal ties.

The regional partners collaborated in a multitude of diverse fields. These include collaboration in economic, defence, education, trade, and infrastructure domains.
